This summer the ELCA Congregations of Williston received a Mission Fund Grant to reach out into their community. The Summer Sizzler was held Sunday, August 3, 2014 in Harmon Park, Williston, ND. The event was hosted by the ELCA congregations of Williston: First, Gloria Dei, Good Shepherd, Our Savior’s and West Prairie. We worshipped together at 11:00 am with musicians, pastors and worship helpers from all the congregations working together. The offering ($935.00) was designated for the ELCA World Hunger Appeal. After worship burgers, brats and hot dogs were served. The afternoon featured entertainment by two groups: Midnight Rainbow (Richard Halvorson & Signe Verhasselt) and The Radio Stars Band. During the afternoon games, inflatable bouncy houses, train rides, popcorn, cotton candy and snow cones were all available and enjoyed by everyone.
The purpose of our event was to invite people into an ELCA community of faith by taking our ELCA community of faith outside to the most visible and highly visited park in our city. We are estimating that we had 300 – 400 people participate. Thank you very much for the grant which helped with the expenses of doing the event.
