Over the next few months, we invite congregations and members of this synod to enter into “A Season of Listening. . .” – a time of intentional conversation about engaging racial diversity across the synod and how we strengthen bonds within our communities. The invitation grows out of conversations at the 2016 Synod Assembly, the Fall Rostered Leaders Conference and September’s Synod Council meeting.
The first conversations were held Saturday, November 12th in Bismarck and Flasher. Additional conversations scheduled at this time include:
Dec. 5 at Metigoshe Lutheran Church, Bottineau, 5:30 pm (light meal provided)
Dec. 6 at Bethel Lutheran Church in New Town, 6:30 pm
Additional dates and locations may be added
What to expect?
A time of honest, caring and safe conversation around issues of race.
The hope is that through listening to a variety of voices, a vision might arise around how to better engage race relations in our synod. We know that everything that needs to be said can’t be said in these meeting, but they are a start.
The conversations will hold to 60-90 minutes.
We invite you to participate. We also invite you to extend the invitation to those you know within your congregations who care deeply about enhancing race relations in the church, those who may be willing to share their experiences and those willing to listen to the experiences of others. We hope these conversations will be a first step in bringing those with diverse experiences and stories together so that we might more fully be church together.
