Sunne Lutheran Church, rural Wilton, has always put together a lot of school kits for Lutheran World Relief, but this year the congregation added the twist of trying to put together 500 kits, almost one for every baptized member (515). Members of the church were invited to purchase the needed school supplies and/or contribute to a $1200 challenge so that supplies could be purchased. One of Sunne’s members used their Thrivent Action Team grant ($250) to help with supplies. Sunne’s WELCA purchased the 500 bags. Sunne ordered the supplies through the local Walmart and were able to purchase the supplies to complete 500 school kits.
But the congregation wasn’t done. Supplies kept coming in…and kept coming in…and kept coming in… The final count was 580 school kits!
The congregation wanted to have fun with the school kit project. On Sunday, August 16, they held a LWR School Kit Celebration. Coffee, lemonade, and cookies were served to the over 40 volunteers who helped put the kits together. People of all ages (from 3 years old to 85 years old) took part. The congregation has always had fun with LWR projects, and this year was no exception.
