At Bread of Life Lutheran Church, on God’s work Our Hands Sunday, the congregation celebrated the dedication of a community playground. This would be a playground specifically built for the neighborhood to enjoy, a playground that would be completely funded solely by gifts from within the congregation, memorials, and from folks in the Minot community. Fun is a big part of the ministry at Bread of Life, and with this playground, we could better share that sense of joy with our neighbors. Today, in worship, we would dedicate it to that mission.
The Saturday before the dedication, 30 folks from Bread of Life, young and old, arrived for a pancake breakfast prepared by our Men in Mission, and quickly went to work finishing up the final ground work for the playground. Shovels removed larger rocks, as rakes leveled the gravel floor in preparation for the final layer of rubber mulch. Dressed in our gold “God’s work. Our Hands” T-shirts, we gave thanks for the way the past 2 years of discernment, prayer, fundraising, and hard work had led to this moment, when the playground was complete.
The next day, the assembly departed the sanctuary to conclude worship outside, at the new playground. Surrounded by the community, Pastor Taryn dedicated the playground and we gave thanks for the hands, feet, hearts, and efforts of the people of God who had helped make this outreach program a success. We dedicated it to God’s mission and gave thanks for God’s provision, and for the sights and sounds of children playing. God is good
