Fair Trade Sunday –
As people of faith, we have the opportunity to live our values in all that we do, including our consumer choices. Acknowledging that the money we spend every day affects the lives of our brothers and sisters around the world and the planet we steward, the Sending Team has designated Sunday, October 1 as Fair Trade Sunday. Businesses that employ Fair Trade practices empower disadvantaged producers, promote community development, promote safe working conditions, prohibit child and forced labor, and respect the environment.
Congregations are especially encouraged to serve Fair Trade coffee during fellowship on this Sunday and report how many cups were served to the Sending Team: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Additional ideas to observe Fair Trade Sunday and promote Fair Trade in your congregation:
- Offer a special prayer for harvest, vocation, and Fair Trade relationships
- Make Fair Trade products available for purchase by your congregation
- Host a Fair Trade coffee or chocolate tasting
- Host a Fair Trade handicrafts bazaar
- Have a Fair Trade handicrafts catalog party

Presenters, Charles R. (Chick) Lane and Grace Duddy Pomroy, together have authored “Embracing Stewardship: How to Put Stewardship at the HEART of Your Congregation’s LIFE.” Chick and Grace will ground the stewardship conversation in scripture, explore important generational differences, and then provide practical steps you can take to help every member of your congregation become a more faithful steward of all God’s gifts.
Mindful of generational perspectives and attuned to the world in which congregations live, this presentation will provide pathways your congregation can follow to deepen your members’ understanding of themselves as stewards of the bounty of God.
You are encouraged to bring a team from your congregation for a day that will provide tools to strengthen your congregation’s stewardship ministry.
Look for a registration link in the near future.
