The first Sunday in Lent is designated as C.A.R. (Central African Republic) Sunday in the Western North Dakota Synod. You can find resources below, including a bulletin insert with a Litany, that can be used during your worship service as you celebrate. Congregations are encouraged to use the Litany and focus on our companion synod in the C.A.R. on February 14th. However, the Litany is designed to be used at any point during Lent, even if you celebrate C.A.R. Sunday on a different date.
We’ve attached the Litany as both a PDF and a Word document so that congregations can tweak the Litany if they’d like.
One of the primary ways we support our brothers and sisters in the Central African Republic is through the Sweet Deal for C.A.R. Project.
The synod has made tubes of M&M Minis available for pick up in both Bismarck and Minot. To pick up you M&M Minis stop by the Synod Office (1614 Capitol Way) in Bismarck or Bread of Life Lutheran Church (1415 17th Ave SW) in Minot.
Congregations are invited to pick up boxes of the candy to share with their congregations, and invite members to return the tubes filled with quarters. The quarters are collected and a check for the full amount is brought to Synod Assembly where our gifts are gathered together to be shared with the EELRCA. Download Sweet Deal for CAR Labels (doc) that can be printed and attached to your M&M tubes to explain the project for folks in your congregation. These labels are designed to work with labels that are compatible with Avery 5160 labels.

While there are many resources available, we highly recommend the video Diko Marie – here’s the link:
